Why 70 Percent of Kids Quit Sports by Age 13

Today I read an article published by the Washington Post that stated that 70 percent of kids quit sports by age 13. Personally, I understand why this is true. Often times parents force their kids to play sports and engage in activities that they are not interested in. At 13, kids start to grasp a sense of who they really are and what they are interested in. Therefore, kids start to rebel against their parents and choose to do what makes them happy. I have loved sports all my life and I still love sports, but playing something that you don’t care about is hard. It’s hard to exert so much energy into something that you do not care about because you do not gain anything out of it. This isn’t just true with sports, it’s true with life. If you don’t like to do something you shouldn’t do it because you only get one life so you should do what you love, as long as it’s not dangerous and stuff.
