Last month, after several nail bitting hours, Assemblyman Todd Kaminsky was declared the winner of State Senate district 9 covering parts of Nassau County including Long Beach. This election has been very interesting as it was a special election to fill the seat vacated by Dean Skelos because he was indicted. The final numbers were very close with Kaminsky only winning by a razor thin margin, forcing the Nassau Board of Election to count absentee ballots. The final count determined that Kaminsky won by a mere 886 votes. This is precisely the reason why voting turn out is so important and every vote does matter.
