Last week, Grayson Allen announced that he’ll return to Duke for his junior season in 2016-17, and it’s fair to say the news set off a wave of social media acclaim attesting to the Blue Devils’ projected strength next season.
Duke will be very strong on paper in 2016-17. It’s unusual to see a team with this much returning experience — Grayson Allen, Matt Jones, Luke Kennard, Chase Jeter and (presumably) a healthy Amile Jefferson — bring in a freshman class this outstanding. Traditionally, elite recruits shy away from rosters that are already well-stocked. Not this time.
This fall, Mike Krzyzewski will welcome Harry Giles, Jayson Tatum, Frank Jackson and Javin DeLaurier to campus. Respectively, the four freshmen are ranked Nos. 1, 2, 11 and 43 in the 2016 ESPN top 100.
