10 Tips to Combating Dry Hair

I’ve always struggled with having really dry hair. It gets easily frizzy and is often difficult to comb through. I’ll admit, I don’t really take good care of my hair apart from the routine shampoo and condition. Recently though, I’ve really been wanting to regrow my hair and make sure it’s a lot healthier, shinier, and a lot less dry. For anyone else suffering from dry hair, here are some tips I’ve gathered so far from both personal experience, and help from the internet!

  1. Do not wash your hair too often! You’re stripping your hair of its natural oils, shampoo dries it out. Try washing your hair 2-4 times a week, NOT everyday.
  2. Always use conditioner, especially on your ends.
  3. Try using a deep conditioner once a week. This could be a home made hair mask or store bought. There are some really great home made hair masks that are really easy and simple to make: olive oil and honey, an egg mask, coconut butter, etc.
  4. Cut your split ends! Get a trim every 2-3 months.
  5. Try not to blow-dry or straighten your hair often. This only makes your hair more damaged and makes it appear more dry. Try to let your hair air dry.
  6. What you eat reflects on your hair as well. Eating healthy will make your hair shinier, thicker, and make it grow faster.
  7. Argan oil.
  8. If you have curly hair especially, DON’T comb out your hair or brush it while it’s dry. It’ll make your hair frizzy and cause more breakage. Comb/brush your hair when it’s wet or damp.
  9. Don’t overdo it with the oils! Argan oil, castor oil, etc are all great for dry hair. A little goes a long way though; overdoing it will make your hair appear greasy.
  10. Don’t go to sleep with wet hair and do not rub your hair with a towel-avoid causing friction to your hair! Dry hair is easily frizzy.
